On Saturday 23 Aug 08, the SGA Masters took place at RGCH. This is the ‘Blue
Ribbon’ event of the SGA Calendar where the SGA Gross and Net Champions of the year are crowned.
Division 1 had 60 players off handicaps
of 0 to 24.4 to compete over 27 holes strokeplay for the 2 titles. Division 2
had 10 players off handicaps of 24.5 and above compete over 18 holes stableford. A
great turn out from the SGA and RGCH members. The first tee off was at 0730 hrs
and the final putt hit the bottom of the cup at around 1730 hours completing a long, tiresome but enjoyable day.
The golfing gods gave us bright blue skies in the early morning that gradually turned to cloud and showers
in the late morning/early afternoon. All 3 courses were playing long due to the
heavy rain the night before and the greens, although slightly slower than normal, were in good condition. The tees were back and the pins were set in difficult positions.
The general consensus was that the course was playing close to it’s hardest possible format.
Some great golf and, some not so great
golf, added up to the following 2 golfers awarded the coveted ‘Green Jackets’ as SGA Champions for 2008:
Sean Nevin – Gross
Max Paterson – Net
and overall Masters Champion 2008
The SGA Committee would like to thank
our sponsors on the day: BMW Car Sales, Coast Promotions and Alexander of London. Without their support, events like this would not be as successful and enjoyable as they are. Thanks to the RGCH ground staff for preparing the course, thanks to Mark and his catering/bar staff for
the excellent BBQ and service throughout the day and finally, a special thanks to Caroline in the RGCH Secretariat who worked
a 12 hour shift to ensure that the day ran smoothly and without problems.
Regards
Sean Nevin
