On Saturday 12 Apr 08 the SGA Season officially teed off with the Spring Scramble.  A reasonable attendance saw 10 teams of 4 players enjoy an 18-hole scramble over the Bruyeres and Quesnoy courses at RGCH.  The sun was shining and the threat of rain was blown away by the strong wind.

With a range of 7 up to nearly 70, (age, not handicaps) the scene was set for an enjoyable day.  With the emphasis on fun and not serious competition, it had been decided to run a ‘no restriction scramble’, nearest to the pin on every par 3 and even a bowl of soup at the turn.  Unfortunately it seems for a variety of reasons there was some confusion with regard to the ‘Rules of the day’.  Apologies for any misunderstanding and the Committee hope that didn’t detract too much from the theme of the day – having fun.

Eventually, 10 groups navigated their way around the course and exchanged stories, as usual, in the 19th hole.  “Missed puts, wild tee shots, plugged lies, hit the wrong club, no sand in the bunker, should never have stopped for soup, should have wore my lucky trousers” – just a few of the reasons on how and why it all went wrong!

At the Prize Giving Ceremony later that evening, SGA Captain, Charles Hartford made a short speech thanking all concerned for making the event an enjoyable day.  He then went on to present the prizes.
